Doc Collier Moonshine Distillery will be sure to give you a taste of the Smokies you won’t forget!

Customers with a valid ID can sample any of the distillery’s flavors, including its one-of-a-kind Moonshine Brandy. There’s also Unaged Corn Whiskey, referred to as “corn liquor” or “white lightning,” produced from corn, water, and yeast.

‘Shined Cherries is made of fruit imported from Traverse City, Mich. — “the Cherry Capital of the World” — and soaked in moonshine for taste.

That’s just the beginning of the impressive tasting list. Doc offers much more, along with “Limited Run” flavors, which include Naner’ — “tastes just like your grandmother’s homemade banana pudding!;” Apple Pie — “a nice blend of apples and a house blend of spices;” and White Oak — “bold oak flavor with a slight hint of vanilla at the end.”

William “Doc” Collier traveled through the Smoky Mountains on horseback, delivering moonshine during the Prohibition era. His recipe for good moonshine included corn, sugar, and good spring mountain water.

The distillery with his name has partnered with nearby English Mountain Spring Water, which delivers 300-600 gallons at a time for use in fermentation and blending.

The distillery looks just like an old-fashioned country mercantile store. Visitors can see some of the equipment that Doc and his family have used for generations.

Tables are made from old whiskey barrels, and a pickle barrel sits in front of the shop. According to legend, a shopkeeper selling moonshine under the table would put a barrel on his doorstep to let customers know he had white lightning in stock.
