I’ll never forget the first time I attended the Smoky Mountain Opry in Pigeon Forge.
As a former entertainment reporter, I had seen many shows in many theaters. But minutes into the Smoky Mountain Opry, I could tell that this production was on another level than the other local shows I had experienced.
With its top-notch performers, dazzling special effects, and gorgeous costumes, the Smoky Mountain Opry is comparable to the shows I enjoyed during my honeymoon in Vegas.
It had a great variety — an eclectic mix of old and new hits across all genres, including country, pop, rock, Motown, disco, big band, and swing; movie theme songs like “My Heart Will Go On” in a version that rivaled Celine Dion’s original; comedians that got plenty of chuckles with clever, family-friendly jokes; awesome laser lights, pyro, and giant video screens to guarantee nothing was missed; and well-known favorites from performers like Frank Sinatra, Kenny Loggins, Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Etta James, and George Jones. The only things missing were the original singers — except with the outstanding talent from our local entertainers, you hardly noticed.
Other shows the Smoky Mountain Opry produces include Magic Beyond Belief with Darren Romeo. The magic show also rivals shows in Vegas, with Romeo being the only protege of master illusionists Siegfried and Roy. Romeo delivers an amazing experience with Bengal tigers, mermaids, and even unicorns! It’s something the whole family will enjoy.
There’s also Christmas at the Smoky Mountain Opry, where you’ll find flying sugarplum fairies; dancing elves; magical reindeer; live animals; Jolly Ole’ Saint Nick; a huge live band; and toys that come to life. There’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than visiting this show!
When friends and family come to town, Smoky Mountain Opry is one of the first places I take them. They are always impressed and amazed that we have this hidden gem in the Smokies!
