It may be hard to
believe, but the leaves are budding and the daffodils are in full bloom in the
Tennessee Smokies, and this means that Springfest in the Smokies has
begun! This is a great time to visit the Smokies; traffic is not as heavy, the weather is pleasant and most of the theaters, attractions, restaurants and accommodations are open and ready for your business.
Pigeon Forge is known for their car shows and Rod Runs, and the Pigeon Forge Rod Run kicks off the season on April 11-14. There you can see thousands of classic Fords, Chevy’s, GMCs and Gold Wing motorcycles. The cars are beautifully restored to their original beauty and many owners are there to sell or swap. There are also sales of other related items like car parts and Rod Run merchandise. Pack your cooler, grab your lawn chairs and plop down
on the Parkway to enjoy the chrome parade.

Another Parkway event is the annual Dolly Parade with Grand Marshall Dolly Parton. Dolly leads a wonderful parade filled with marching bands, horse patrols, clowns, Shriners and floats filled with singers and dancers from the area theaters and personnel and equipment from the area attractions. You will see lumberjacks, zipliners, whitewater rafters and more. This is a parade that will be enjoyed by every member of your group or family.
Other events include Music of the Mountains at three locations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, April 25-27, 2014, Gatlinburg’s Beans and Cornbread Blast on May 8, and the amazing Synchronous Fireflies event in early June. Check with the National Park for details.
