The Great Smoky Mountains were ablaze with the beautiful colors of all on the first weekend of November, 2013. Mother Nature painted her leaves with Crayola Crayon colors like cherry and burgundy reds, school bus yellows, pumpkin-colored oranges, rain forest greens and even rich, cordovan-colored browns.
The Foothills Parkway between Highway 32 and Interstate 40 just outside of Cosby, Tennessee, was a perfect place to view the colors on Saturday. The day dawned bright and the temperature was cool and crisp, ideal for a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket. There are several pull-overs which not only offer great places to stop and admire and photograph the trees and leaves, but also to view the Smoky Mountains that surround peaceful looking valleys.
A solitary white house in the valley was barely visible as it was surrounded by a swirling mix of colors as if a giant artist had mixed together all of the colors on his palette and drawn his brush back and forth across the tops of the trees.
