Synchronous Fireflies Illuminating Night Skies

Synchronous Fireflies Illuminating Night Skies

Once a year, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park holds a lottery system for anyone who wants to see thousands of synchronous fireflies illuminating night skies!

This event is from June 7 – June 14, 2018, held in Elkmont, TN.

Since this event attracts many people from all over the country, the park decided to make a lottery system to select applicants that apply to the lottery to watch the luminous fireflies during those 8 days!

The lottery opens Friday at noon on April 27, 2018, and closes Monday at 8:00 pm on April 30, 2018.

The lottery applicants must be able to select 2 possible dates and apply for either a regular vehicle pass (a max of 6 occupants), or a large vehicle pass (a max of 24 occupants). There is also no fee to enter the lottery! So give it a try and you might be one of the lucky winners to see the dazzling synchronous fireflies!

The results of the lucky winners of the lottery will be available May 9, 2018!

If you are one of the selected winners, you will be charged with a $20 reservation fee, and will be provided a parking pass that will allow you to park at Sugarlands Visitor Center in Gatlinburg, TN. The provided parking pass will also allow you to have access to the shuttle that takes you from Sugarlands Visitor Center to Elkmont, TN to see the fireflies!

The synchronous fireflies are 1 out of 19 species that live in The Great Smoky Mountains, and they only flash their lights for a few weeks out of the whole year!

This event is a blast to go to with your family and friends! It will be a memory you will never forget!

Make sure to apply to the lottery if you want to be chosen to view the spectacular synchronous fireflies in The Great Smoky Mountains!
